8 questions for The Online Citizen’s Remy Choo
Posted by wayangparty on February 10, 2008
Following the furore erupted in cyberspace over a netizen questioning the dubious background of TOC and its Chief Editor Remy Choo and the subsequent legal wrangle that followed, we have written to The Online Citizen to seek clarifications on the following below.
Our comments on TOC itself are still under moderation after 3 days and we doubt TOC will publish it.
Unable to obtain any clarification from TOC or Remy Choo himself, we have decided to publish our questions here for all to read.
To: Mr Choo Zheng Xi, Chief Editor of The Online Citizen:
Please clarify the following to dispel any lingering doubts about TOC being a PAP ruse to manage the internet.
1. Are you a young PAP member ?
2. Are you an elected member of the Buona Vista CCMC ?
3. Are you a grassroots leader under the PA ?
4. Do you know any PAP MPs personally ?
5. Are your professors in NUS aware of your involvement in TOC and are they supportive of it ?
6. Since you are still a student and not earning any income, who has been paying for the upkeep of TOC ?
7. What is the role of YPAP member Ephraim Loy on TOC ? Does he vet through all the articles before they are published ?
8. Besides Eprahim Loy, who are the PAP members, past and present on TOC ?
Mr Choo Zheng Xi, you are welcome to leave your reply on our blog and we will publish it completely unedited and unmoderated unlike TOC.
If you do not answer our questions dutifully and truthfully, it will show that you have something to hide and therefore we must continue to harbor deep reservations about TOC’s agenda.

I wouldn’t trust anyone who’s a member of a political party.
It’s such a waste of time.

It is easy to discern the true dissenters from charlatans. True dissenters get whacked, gets investigated, or even jailed for speaking out.

I think the question asked by Jasper was a Q that many ppl secretly wanted to ask of TOC. I believe it was a valid question. But why not just answer him? Why then threaten him?
I really dont believe TOC will recover from this, either way they are damaged.
Now I know why the b-p kept their distance. You notice the only ppl supporting TOC right now are the very same ppl who usually get aggregated by them. If that is not called boot licking, then I dont know what is.

I believe that The Online Citizen has published their response on their site and the burden of proof will be on the netizens to say otherwise. In any case, it is narrow- minded to suggest that party or political affiliation or even political beliefs can ruin the credibility of the articles and opinions.

I apologise about the bluntness but that has got to be the most childish threat I have seen. Innocent until proven guilty anyone? What are you? Self- appointed court of injustice?
If you don’t publish this, it means that you are afraid of people pricking through that shallow threat.

Hi Lifangyi,
Thanks for your rather civil reply in contrast to some we receive from TOC and WP supporters.
As fervent believers in the freedom of speech, we seek to publish all comments posted here unedited unless it contains indecent language.
The 8 questions we posed to Mr Remy Choo were harbored by many other bloggers as well.
The fact remains that Mr Remy Choo was indeed paid by a PAP MP to write articles though not for TOC and this would not be revealed if not for the pressure exerted by us and other bloggers.
We leave it to readers to judge for themselves whether TOC’s cosy ties with the establishment will have any impact on their credibility.
