Public call for Andrew Loh and Remy Choo to apologize and step down from TOC

Posted by wayangparty on February 16, 2008

Following the public outcry over Remy Choo being under the payroll of PAP and Andrew Loh’s sneaky attempt to cover up, TOC has lost all shreds of credibility as a socio-political news blog in cyberspace as evident from the comments left by bloggers and forumers here.

We call upon Mr Andrew Loh and Mr Remy Choo to make an apology to all bloggers and netizens for:

1. Not revealing the truth about Remy Choo’s cosy ties with a PAP MP on TOC in the first place.

2. Denying the allegations made by Jasper about Remy Choo being paid by Madam Ho initially to mislead us which turns out to be true.

By obsfuscating and distorting the truth in an blatant attempt to deceive and mislead netizens, Mr Andrew Loh and Mr Remy Choo have no moral authority or credibility left to continue being the Chief and Co-Editors of The Online Citizen.

No matter what they write in the future, they will be judged invariably based on this grievous fatal mistake committed by them and we will be unsure of the extent of PAP influence in their articles.

According to the feedback we have received from our readers, a majority of them would want Mr Andrew Loh and Mr Remy Choo to step down from TOC and pass their positions to other members on the editorial team.

Even the prominent blogger Dr Huang Shoou Chyuan has called on Remy Choo to resign here:

Yes That is why I feel that even if Choo was naive to think otherwise, there is a conflict of interest.
The honorable thing for Choo to do would be to resign as TOC’s editor ( to save TOC’s credibility).
Sigh- but I think only the two of us gets it.
Cheers

Mr Andrew Loh and Mr Remy Choo: if both of you still consider yourselves as men, please save whatever little dignity to have for yourselves by quitting TOC for good now with immediate effect.

Mr James Gomez stepped down from WP CEC after sabotaging his party’s plans with his boo-boo in “Gomezgate” during the last GE.

Mr Goh Meng Seng resigned from WP after disgracing his party in an online mudslinging fiasco with an anonymous forumer which was publicized in the press.

Even T T Durai had the courage to admit his mistake and step down from NKF after revelations made in court showed that he did fly in first class after all.

If you can’t hold even a candle to him, do you still have the right to criticize others for not being transparent ?

If you can’t even be honest with yourselves and your readers, how can you expect us to believe what you write in the future ?

Andrew Loh is a well-known PAP boot-licker in SBF while Choo is another YPAP sucker being groomed for the internet counter-surgency.

TOC = THE ONLINE CONS !!!

I don’t think TOC has lost all shred of credibility. If their agenda has been to “expose the PAP/govt”, then yes they have. But if TOC’s aim has been to promote socio-political discussion and further public knowledge, then I think they’ve been doing a pretty good job. I mean, TOC isn’t just made up of Remy Choo and Andrew Loh right? What about the contributions of other people?

Give TOC some credit. They’ve been hard-hitting where they’ve needed to be. I’m not sure how true it is that Mr Choo and Mr Loh have cosy ties with the PAP but even if they do, I don’t think we can write-off what TOC has achieved so far. And again, I maintain that there’s a need for a space where govt supporters and govt opponents can exchange ideas.

    Dear Joey,

The crux of the issue here is not about the contents on TOC or Choo’s links with the PAP.

We think it is fair that we judge TOC based on the quality of its articles rather than the background of its writers.

In fact, we can’t fault Choo much too if he chose not to disclose his freelance work with a PAP MP.

What we find abhorent and unacceptable is Remy Choo and Andrew Loh’s handling of this debacle which reflects their lack of integrity and honesty.

To us, honesty is the most important attribute we place on bloggers.

Both Remy and Andrew have shown themselves to be dishonest to the readers. If Jasper had not posted on TOC again that he knew the MP was from Boon Lay, would Remy Choo and Andrew Loh issued the confession ?

Poor Jasper will be discredited as a gossip-monger and a PAP mole out to fix TOC !

Had Remy Choo admit upfront that he wrote for PAP MP Ho Geok Choo, we would have closed the matter and let readers judge for themselves if TOC is a indeed a PAP mole.

However, Remy Choo not only deny the allegations vehemently initially, he even counter-accuse Jasper of sprouting rubbish while Andrew Loh threaten legal action (in a thread he posted on SBF).

With this precedent, can we still trust their words in the future ?

In our view, the damage done to TOC’s credibility would be minimal if Choo just admit instead of lying to mislead the readers which dealt a far greater blow to its intellectual honesty and integrity.

    Storm in a Teacup?

Calls to the TOC editors to resign are puzzling. For one, they are not responsible to you or me for their site. We do not pay them to maintain the TOC. We do not hold shares in their company, and they are simply not accountable to us for their readership.

Their views, regardless how partisan or not, are theirs. We do not have to read it if we do not want to. If you find them no longer credible, then don’t read them. Simple as that.

You cannot claim to expound free speech, but deny it to others just because you do not agree with their politics, their motives, or their intents. You might think they’ve been dishonest. If so, stop reading their spiel. you have that choice. If their game is up because they are exposed as a pro-establishment mouthpiece, then people who do not want to read such views will no longer visit them.

But I don’t think anyone has a right to insist that they stop expressing their views simply because they are not in line with your political morality.

Good to root out such writers who have no integrity let alone honesty.

Everyone is entitled to their views. However if the writer has to hide behind a shroud of dishonesty just to write supporting arguments for those they support, they are invariably pathethic.

Andrew Loh has a group of hardcore fanatical supporters who just refuse to face up to reality.

A lie is a lie what’s more such a blatant one.

To me, Choo and Andrew no longer have any credibility left in blogosphere.
